Welcome to Sagamore Hill, the home of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States. Away from the stress of city life, Theodore Roosevelt and his wife Edith raised their six children in this home in Oyster Bay, New York. During his two terms as President, Sagamore Hill served as the Summer White House. In the summer, White House staff, heads of state, and the Secret Service came to Sagamore Hill and all the business of the Presidency was conducted from this home.
Most importantly, Sagamore Hill was a family home and the only home the Roosevelts ever owned. The house is not an opulent mansion nor was it designed to hold affairs of state. As you can see from the furniture decorating the rooms, the home was first and foremost a family home. As you walk through the front door, step into the world of Theodore Roosevelt, his wife Edith, and their six children.
